A combination of perseverance and belief brings a New Zealand national exhibition to the Venice Architecture Biennale for the second time. Future Islands presents New Zealand architecture as a grouping of metaphorical islands, an imagined archipelago encompassing a variety of approaches and responses to the fluid and uncertain conditions of contemporary global practice. Some of these architectural projects have been constructed, and some may yet to be constructed; others are intentionally speculative. Together, the work exhibits a range of actualities and possibilities, indicating what is happening on our architectural front, and perhaps anticipating what, in the future, may occur on our islands. Future Islands was conceptualised by Creative Director Charles Walker and Associate Creative Director Kathy Waghorn, along with their creative team and the support of the NZIA. Graphic design by Inhouse.
